All the B's and more

Another pastel card from me today...

There's a brighter splash of colour though, as I've used a darker pink, and added black as a base.
The layout is from Mojo Monday sketch 201. The colours are again from The Shabby Tea Room as well as the inspiration. The long bath is made to dream in...
~ Ü ~

I've spent the whole morning rushing this just to link up with Our Creative Corner. They're using all the B's (black, bling, buttons and bows), and so have I.

It took ages rolling the rose from ribbon, just to create a centre for the bow. The tag hangs from a jump ring.

The background is embossed, misted and inked with DIs. I've used a Tim Holtz stamp as a focal sentiment, over a subtle viva decor stamp. The dark pink piece has been stamped with another Tim Holtz mini ornate stamp.

vintage with lace & pearls

There are several components that brought this card together.

I've been waiting for a fussy layout for the sketch from Crafting Life's Pieces

I had this image, which I printed some time ago (sorry, can't remember which vintage site I got it from). And when I saw the theme (relax & enjoy) and colours (yellow, green, pink + neutrals) from The Shabby Tea Room, I knew this was perfect for it.

City Crafter Challenge blog provided the inspiration for the papers (Pink Petticoat Vintage Rose Collection)

and the details come from Make My Monday (Vintage with the addiition of lace and pearls).

This is my card:

I'm not a girly and frilly kinda gal, so this is a different thing for me. My usual makes are more krafty and grungy than softly dreamy. I really wanted to do this though. Does she not look so relaxed and dreamy?
~ Ü ~

The background paper actually came with a white base. I used glimmer mists to alter the papers for a better match. I even misted the translucent lace at the base of the border. The chipboard die cut was misted, and then edged with forest moss DI. Everything else was edged in my favourite DI, vintage photo.

I didn't have any edging lace or pearls, so i actually went out to get some. Which was why I had to delay creating my vision.

I found the ribbon wrap too wide for the border, so I folded and stitched it with a decorative stitch (with a sewing machine, of course! ). The pearls were then hand-sewn along the ribbon. I also used pearls to make a decorative pin for the ribbon bow.

There are lines of liquid pearls along the fancy die cut. I thought a big bouquet there might overwhelm the whole card, so I've kept it rather plain.

It fits the theme (shabby sparkle) over at Cupcake Craft Challenges, so I'm linking up there as well.

Thanks for looking!

vintage santa

I just got this new stamp, so am excited to try it out. It's an Urban Stamp by Papermania. Not the usual rubber, neither is it silicone. Feels rather plasticky actually. The one main drawback of online shopping, you don't get to feel what you're buying. The image has turned out nicely, though.

Anyway, I thought Santas make rather good vintage Christmas images, and this is my result:

I've coloured Santa with a waterbrush and colour pencils. Did you know you can actually lick colour off an ordinary colour pencil with a wet brush? ~Ü~

I'm using 365 Cards: Day 139 sketch. Yup, I'm one week behind...

It's just a simple card, with an distressed, embossed background. The north star cross is a Sizzix dingbat cut from red chipboard and sanded, and the snowflake is trimmed from a chain. The other embellies are just a jute bow, some pleated doily and a grosgrain ribbon.

window atc

The ATC Challenges blog has a door/window/anything goes challenge on. Here is my entry :

I've always wanted to use this window die but cannot seem to find a use for it. It came as part of a box set. When I saw this challenge, that was the first thing that came to mind. I've used a TH stamp for the scenery. The "walls" are embossed. I know windows come with frames, but I like it the way it is (artistic licence?). Just a touch of ink to edge them.

vintage shabby chic

Vintage Shabby Chic, torn or crumpled. How can I pass on a challenge like that? ~Ü~

That's what Make My Monday brings us this week. And Mojo Monday brings us this delightful sketch.

I know I'm a bit slow off the mark, it being Friday and all, but it's not too late to play along.

The base of this card started with a waste glimmer sheet. It's actually the backing paper when I spray a die cut or something over it. This, I tore, distressed and inked the edges. I added some stitches to a large tear. I've seen it in mags, and thought it was a cool thing to do.

The sentiment is a Tim Holtz stamp. It's stamped onto kraft paper which I then lightly crumpled and highlighted the creases with DI. The frame is black cs which has been inked with copper ink, and the effect looks a bit like wrought iron. The whole thing is then finished off with a bow and a glimmery butterfly.

vintage ship

Going for another vintage creation today.

I was inspired by the Our Creative Corner photo challenge.

I love the bottom left picture (reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle ~Ü~ ), so that's my inspiration. I went trawling for vintage images and the one I used came from The Graphics Fairy.

The general layout is based on a sketch from The (paper) Trail makers. I'm using Amarily's sketch for this.

I've stayed true to most aspects except the the image is relatively larger, so it's perched further up, and the sentiment ticket (instead of a title) sits further down.

I've always admired vintage image cards, and I'm so glad I've made one. I like the way the image sits on a corrugated card. I did not use gesso, but tempera paint. It has taken on some of the ink from the walnut stain DI, so it's muted but vintage-y.

The flower is light kraft paper, cut with Tim Holtz's tattered florals die. After cutting, I crumpled up the flowers, opened them up, then layered them together. I applied paper pen and spread it out with my fingers. I discovered recently that it shrinks when it's dry. The curls are all due to shrinkage. I used a button for the flower centre, tied with twine. The flower and leaves were also given a spritz of glimmer mists for some sparkly colour.

vintage roses

Today's card is inspired by a combo of several challenges:

Mojo Monday - sketch 199
The Shabby Tea Room - week # 70 flower power
Make my Monday - challenge 6 vintage & embossing
Oldie but a Goodie - challenge #23 lace & ribbon
The Crafty Pad - Challenge 129 Lots of Texture

I've used one of my favourite flower stamps for this card. It is coloured with watercolour pencils, then highlighted the blooms with glitter and gloss gel. It is backed with a folded doily. The doily was too large, so I folded it with a variation of accordian fold. I then added a splash of colour with distress inks.

The background is embossed and also coloured with distress inks. It is wrapped in lace and grosgrain ribbon, and topped with a lace bow. To age the lace. I misted it with pink glimmer mist, then edged it with vintage photo.

white party

It's a white party over at Our Creative Corner, and I'm going! ~Ü~

It all started while I was playing origami with a paper doily. I had no set direction, but started with a bird base. It looked a bit odd as there are no corners; then with a few folds, I ended up with a bouquet-holder shape. Of course, we must have flowers to go with it. In the end, I decided on just one large bloom.

I added more texture with a white lace bow, and a lace-and-button flower centre. The "stem" is cut from wallpaper, and everything sits on an embossed background.

christmas atc

 It's a vintage-y christmas ATC today.

The background is inked, partially embossed, stitched and glimmered in pink. The main die cut image is from an old  sizzix die which I have inked, layered, and the berries topped with gloss. The scrap of lace is real vintage, from my late gran's stash.
